Connect AI to Multisite Migrate (MCP)
Let Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, and other MCP clients read backup status, health, and archives — and start confirmed backups — without living in wp-admin.
How it works
- Multisite Migrate registers WordPress Abilities (WordPress 6.9+).
- You install the official MCP Adapter companion plugin (Network Activate on Multisite).
- You generate an Application Password (Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini, Windsurf) or OAuth credentials (ChatGPT).
- Your AI client talks to
/wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server.
No custom MCP protocol stack inside Multisite Migrate — same pattern as modern WordPress AI agent plugins.

Free abilities work without a license. Pro only adds more tools.
How to connect
- Open Multisite Migrate → AI Agents in Network Admin (or site admin on single site).
- Complete the four setup steps: Abilities → Install MCP Adapter → Application Password → Test connection.
- Copy the snippet for your client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini, Windsurf).
- For ChatGPT: use Generate ChatGPT OAuth credentials, then create a Developer Mode connector with Client ID/Secret and the Authorization/Token URLs.
Stdio clients typically use npx -y @automattic/mcp-wordpress-remote with WP_API_URL, username, and application password.

FAQ
- WordPress version? Abilities API requires WordPress 6.9+.
- Application Passwords disabled? Site must be HTTPS (or local). Security plugins can block per-user — Multisite Migrate will not bypass that.
- ChatGPT? Needs OAuth + Developer Mode; Application Passwords alone are not enough.
- Can AI fix my server? No — it can explain health findings and start allowed jobs. Domain mapping assist lives in the restore UI / Mapping Assist feature.
